Prices start from £350 for 1/2 day learning for 10 staff in your organisation with Deaf people about engaging with Deaf people in a private and public setting.

 

DMCS delivers tailored Deaf Awareness courses that centre around your organisation needs.   Each individual would benefit and gain understanding, increase their confidence and their knowledge will be enhanced.  Which will be effective and of immediate benefits for your organisation and your colleagues, customers or service users who have deafness.

These well-crafted courses are delivered with continuing professional development CPD certificates which is important because it brings benefits to the individual, their profession and the public.  Our CPD ensures that you maintain and enhance the knowledge and skills you need to deliver a professional service to your customers, clients and the community.

The training covers:

  • An introduction to deafness

  • Communicate clearly

  • Communication aids

 

Aims

  • To introduce participants to issues faced by D/deaf people in everyday life.

  • To introduce participants to communication tactics.

Learning Objectives

  • To have an understanding of the numbers of D/deaf people across the UK

  • To be able to describe D/deaf people with various levels of deafness using appropriate terms.

  • To have an understanding of Deaf Culture

  • To be able to attract a D/deaf person’s attention

  • To be able to communicate through fingerspelling

  • To be able to sign basic sentences (e.g. Can I help you?)

  • To be aware of how to improve communication between speakers and lipreaders

  • To have an understanding of interpreters and the levels they work at

  • To have an understanding of equipment and services which are available to D/deaf people.

Training can be delivered at your own venue or at our accessible training room.  The training is accessible to everyone.

 

Please note that in order for this course to go ahead we require a minimum number of 10 candidates to meet our delivery costs.  In the unlikely event that it is not possible to run this course, students will be offered alternative dates and times or a full refund will be given.

 

DMCS reserves the right not to register students for the assessment if we feel that their skills are below the standard required to achieve the qualification.
